Religion in Public Schools.

11/26/07

Should Religion be spoken and accepted in the Public schools of the U.S.? I think it should.

It is our 1st amendment that we can have freedom of Religion. And because of the establishment clause there shall be no connection between church and state. Many think that even teaching about religion in schools makes a breach on our first amendment and if you want religion, go to a private school. Not everyone can go to a private school. And public schools are filled with all different kinds of people from all types of backgrounds. So why not learn about those backgrounds?

There are four major religions in my school: Christianity, Islam, Judaism, and Buddhism. So instead of pretending like they don’t even exist why not teach students about these religions so that they can have a better understanding of the people they live and interact with everyday. Teaching about several religions would not be accepting just one as truth but it would be embracing all of us for who we are. And I think that it would help all of us form a respect for each other by understanding each student’s way of life.
